PRESS RELEASE
A Statement from Silvius, the Sri Lanka Wood-Pigeon
Greetings from the treetops, folks! I’m Silvius, the Sri Lanka Wood-Pigeon. I would like to address the growing interest in my life and work. First off, I appreciate the attention, but let’s be real: I’m not one for the spotlight. With these dazzling grey and purple feathers, you’d think I’d be strutting my stuff, but no—I prefer a life of mystery. Camouflage is key, people. Now, about my role in the forest, I don’t like to brag but I’m basically nature’s gardener. I feast on fruits, berries, and seeds from the upper canopy, then, well... I “recycle” them. Yep, I’m talking about seed dispersal! You’re welcome, trees. Without me, Sri Lanka’s forests would be in a bit of a pickle. You want biodiversity? I deliver it—literally.
As for my social life, let’s just say I’m more into quiet nights in, than wild bird parties. You’ll usually find me perched solo or hanging out with my closest friends. However, I am known to make a special appearance during the breeding season—building high-rise nests where nobody can find me, thank you very much. Before I go, a quick note on my vocals. My call is more “haunting forest melody” than your average pigeon “coo”. It’s basically the soundtrack of Sri Lanka’s montane forests at dawn. So, if you hear me, congrats—you’re witnessing forest royalty in action. In closing, I appreciate the national stamp tribute, being featured on it is flattering. But honestly, my true legacy is the trees. So remember, when you’re enjoying the lush forests, I’m behind the scenes, making it all happen.
You’re welcome. Coo out!
